Our club is honored to be doing the planting for Dracut's 9/11 memorial to be dedicated on July 20, 2011 from 6-7:30 P.M. The town has erected a beam from the Twin Towers and a granite bench outside the Fire Station on the corner of Jones Avenue and Broadway Road. Now our task is to decorate the site with appropriate plantings.
Eventually, the flowers will be red, white, and blue perennials; however, the first flowers will be annuals including scarlet and white begonias along with indigo petunias.
Our club also planted two green shrubs, one on either side of the bench.
The photos in the sidebar, right, show the site before the plantings and some of our effort in progress. Planting work will resume tonight, July 11, at 6 P.M. and again on Wednesday at 8 A.M.
