It's hard to believe it's autumn when we have weather like today. But there are a few more things you should think about doing in your garden at this time of year. If you brought houseplants outside for the summer, you need to bring them in before nights get chilly. Before you do, check to make sure that you are not bringing insects or diseases indoors with them. Check under the leaves and the soil surface for any undesirerables. You may want to prune them some to shape the plants, and consider keeping them on an enclosed porch or sunroom for a while before bringing them inside your home.
Roses need some attention now too. Now is not the time to prune them, but do remove old blooms and any dead or damaged stems or leaves. I noticed today that some of my rose leaves had black spots on them. When you remove such, don't just drop them on the ground at the base of the plant because that could cause problems to spread. Clean out around the base of the rose bush so that pests and diseases don't have a chance to remain there through the winter and spring to live again next year.
